Who is Bono’s stunning actress daughter, Eve Hewson? The Dublin-born Bad Sisters star and Chanel fan has already worked with Tom Hanks and Sean Penn and is determined to join Brad Pitt in his new F1 film
There are celebrity kids, and then there are rock star celebrity kids.
Because what’s more heartwarming than watching a legendary musician take time offstage to start a family and, in Bono’s case, become a doting dad of four?
She is also known for not being afraid to call things out. The outspoken Irish starlet recently blasted The New York Times for mislabelling her nationality as “British” and took to Twitter to call out the mistake in capital letters: “OH DEAR @nytimesarts. WE ARE IRISH, PLEASE AND THANK YOU.”
In an interview with The Telegraph, the budding actress spoke out about her disappointing casting experiences, stating “whenever I read a script about ‘the most beautiful girl in the room’, I want to puke”.
So, who is she and what else has she been in?
Daughter of an activist and rock music icon
Hewson was born to Bono and Ali Hewson and raised in Dublin, Ireland. Her parents are childhood sweethearts and got married in the 1980s at the peak of U2’s fame.
According to the Irish Mirror, Eve’s mum Ali decided to put her nursing career on hold as U2 began to take off, and she went on to dedicate her life to humanitarian work and being a mother.
The children largely grew up out of the spotlight, something Eve has said she is grateful for. “I’m really lucky I didn’t grow up in London. I’m really lucky I didn’t grow up in LA. Being in Ireland and just how Irish people don’t care about fame, it’s not our currency at all … I think that really helped,” she told the Irish Times.
Eve’s older sister Jordan is a tech entrepreneur and activist who has made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, her younger brother Elijah is in a rock band, and her other brother John is currently keeping out of the spotlight.
An impressive acting résumé
Hewson made her acting debut in 2008, with The 27 Club, but her first major role was in This Must Be the Place in 2011 with Sean Penn. It’s been a steady climb from there for the 31-year-old ever since, landing gigs with actors from Tom Hanks to Mila Kunis.
She was in The Knick with Clive Owen and Robin Hood with Jamie Foxx and Taron Egerton. She also starred in the Dakota Fanning-directed short Hello Apartment.
Her most recent acting gig was acclaimed Apple TV+ black comedy Bad Sisters.
She grew up around music legends
She recalled how he had stayed with her family and she was a big dancer and would show off a special move for guests. “Then he went and made that music video, and that is the move! I swear he got that from me.”
She loves F1 – and is determined to join a Brad Pitt film about the sport
She went on to reveal that Brad Pitt has the same manager as her, and that she knew he was working on an F1 film. At dinner with her manager, she said, “Get Brad Pitt on the phone right now”, she told the talk show host, adding that she was determined to get on the project even for a minor role in the background.
A fashion icon – and Chanel enthusiast
Hewson has quickly become a style icon after appearing on numerous red carpets. But she has her eyes on one brand in particular: Chanel. In an interview with Vogue, she described her “obsession” with the French fashion house, saying “I just want Chanel all over me at all times”.
Yet despite her family’s incredible wealth – Bono alone is worth US$700 million, per Celebrity Net Worth – she didn’t get her first Chanel bag until she turned 19, according to Dujour. She also loves all things vintage, telling Vogue that sustainability comes first and it’s the right thing to do. “It’s not like there’s a shortage of great vintage dresses out there.”
- Hewson has starred in films and TV shows like The Knick with Clive Owen, Hello Apartment directed by Dakota Fanning and Robin Hood with Jamie Foxx and Taron Egerton
- Not many people know that her dad is U2’s frontman Bono, since she grew up away from the spotlight – and she claims Robbie Williams once ‘stole’ her dance moves
