Tina Leung is one of the OG Instagram fashion influencers. Over the past decade, she has befriended, bedazzled and bowled over the “you can’t sit with us” fashion elites. Now her star is shining even brighter thanks to Netflix’s Bling Empire: New York, where viewers are getting to know the other side of Leung. The fashionista is also the gal who cries when she is late for a fashion week event and who openly speaks about how hard she has had to work to get to where she is today.

We delve into Leung’s love of the two cities and how she shows off different fashion styles in each …

NYC – conquering the concrete jungle

The Big Apple is undoubtedly one of the fashion capitals of the world. And when you’re crossing paths with Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, the Olsen Twins and Irina Shayk while grabbing an almond latte at Starbucks, you can bet it isn’t easy to make your mark when it comes to setting style trends.

But that’s exactly what Bling Empire: New York star Leung, 40, has managed to achieve over the past decade. As part of the original group of Instagram influencers, Leung’s eclectic taste in fashion, bold looks on the red carpet and close friendships with well-known designers, have all come together to make the Hong Kong-born star an NYC fave.

Whether donning glitzy day looks while waiting for a cab or a patchwork jersey at a fancy event, her looks not only make her stand out in the city, but are also crowd-pleasers.

The Gucci-loving influencer has said that the Big Apple allows her to be different. “I’m a little more kooky in New York. I feel like I can let it all out and make however many mistakes I want,” she told Fashionista.

Leung has enjoyed an ongoing love affair with Hong Kong. It was where she was born, after all. She left when she was two, then returned at age 11 and later got her first big break as a writer and stylist in the city. Some would say that Hong Kong incubated much of her talent.

As previously reported, she’s told the story of how, one day, she was at a salon having her hair done when her stylist introduced her to a man who had started a magazine. That man was Gordon Lam from Prestige. She landed a job and soon her blog Tina Loves garnered a cult following. She said the job caught her by surprise and that she had “no intention of staying in Hong Kong”.
