18 dazzling celebrity outfits at the Berlin Film Festival 2023: from Anne Hathaway’s sheer Valentino dress and Helen Mirren’s bold Vivienne Westwood gown to Kristen Stewart’s Chanel suit

The Berlin Film Festival wrapped just hours ago, after 11 hectic days of VIP premieres and exclusive red carpets. Celebrities and film insiders from around the world made fashionable appearances at Germany’s top cinematic celebration, with Kristen Stewart wearing a tweed pantsuit, while Anne Hathaway donned a see-through dress. Here are the best looks from the 73rd annual event, hosted from February 16 and 26:

1. Marisa Tomei

Paco Rabanne designed Marisa Tomei’s knee-length skirt and matching, button-down top. Both were covered in sparkles, and the latter was embellished with a crystal collar and short, cascading sleeves. The 58-year-old completed the look with silver pumps.

2. Kristen Stewart

Designed by Chanel, Kristen Stewart’s pantsuit included wide-leg trousers and a matching jacket – both in shades of orange, red, black and white.

The 32-year-old wore the jacket with nothing underneath, and kept it held together with only a small clasp.

3. Nikeata Thompson

Nikeata Thompson’s white Kaviar Gauche dress was crafted entirely from tulle. It had a tiered bodice, an off-the-shoulder neckline and a long train.

The 42-year-old British actor complemented the look with white sandals and pearls in her hair.

4. Toni Garrn

Designed by Giorgio Armani, Toni Garrn’s sleeveless gown was sheer across her shoulders, collarbone and waist, and covered with a sparkling, bralette-style panel across her chest.

The 30-year-old German model accessorised the black garment with silver jewellery, including a necklace, small earrings and a septum nose ring.

5. Anne Hathaway

Valentino created Anne Hathaway’s sleeveless gown, which was made from tan mesh and embellished with a chain-mail-style layer of black leather bows.

To make her outfit even edgier, the 40-year-old added long leather gloves, a “no-make-up” make-up look and black pumps.

6. Rebecca-Jo Dunham and Jay Baruchel

For the BlackBerry premiere, Rebecca-Jo Dunham wore a handcrafted dress created by her friend Jill. It featured a mesh base illustrated with black and red doodles, and layers of black yarn loosely draped on top.

Jay Baruchel, 40, complemented her in a white T-shirt, matching trainers and a deep-grey jacket and trouser set.

7. Madisin Rian

Madisin Rian’s navy-blue gown was sleeveless with a scoop neckline and floor-length skirt. But its most striking detail was its backless bodice, which was draped with thin layers of crystal-covered fabric.

8. Barbara Palvin

Barbara Palvin’s strapless black dress from Harris Reed had a corset bodice and a full, tulle skirt.

The 29-year-old kept with the dark theme by adding black pumps, smokey eye make-up, and a black bow in her hair.

9. Sydney Sweeney

Designed by Alexander McQueen, Sydney Sweeney’s black outfit included floor-length trousers and a matching jacket with crystal embellishments.

The sparkling pieces lined the bottom of the 25-year-old’s jacket and highlighted the two waist cut-outs that revealed her stomach and back.

10. Tom Wlaschiha

The Stranger Things actor wore a casual-looking suit, which showed off a silky button-down shirt with a matching pocket square.

The 49-year-old completed the look with sleek black shoes.

11. Armin Morbach

Make-up artist and hair stylist Armin Morbach wore an oversized suit jacket and pants embellished with black flowers. A black, silky button-down shirt matched the satin lapel on his jacket.

Morbach finished off the look with an all-black New York Yankees cap and sparkly loafers.

12. Greta Lee

Greta Lee’s structural grey top was playful yet sophisticated, and it rested nicely over a minidress of the same colour.

To round out the elegant look, the 39-year-old wore black, pointed-toe pumps, a simple bracelet, and a classic string necklace.

13. Laëtitia Ky

Julia Colléaux designed Laëtitia Ky’s jacket, which had puffed shoulders, pockets and gold buttons. The lapel was also emphasised using sparkling gold fabric.

Ky kept the rest of the look simple with black pants, a black shirt and slouchy black knee-high boots. The 27-year-old used the accent colour again by adding a pair of gold earrings as accessories.

14. Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren wore a Vivienne Westwood floor-length gown with ruffles at the shoulders and a slightly slouched cowl neck.

The 77-year-old carried a black clutch bag and wore her hair long over her right shoulder.

15. Damian Hardung

Damian Hardung wore a soft-yellow jumper with green and white stripes lining the wrists and a V-neck, which showed off a patterned, blue, collared shirt he wore underneath.

The 24-year-old tucked the front of his jumper into a pair of rose-coloured pants, revealing a simple black belt. Hardung accessorised with black dress shoes and a chunky silver-coloured watch.

16. Girley Charlene Jazama

Actor and producer Girley Charlene Jazama wore a gown by Kisui Berlin, a Berlin-based bridal fashion brand. The gown featured puffy sleeves, a boat neckline and a short train. The fabric was iridescent and gave the gown a pearly-white allure.

Jazama accessorised the look with Amélie George bridal jewellery and matching white Aldo shoes.

17. Mia Goth

Mia Goth’s monochromatic look was made exciting by features like feathers and glittery embellishments.

The 29-year-old’s sleeves were slit up to the top of her arms, which gave the illusion of a cape, and the feather detailing at the bottom completed a small train. The gown’s see-through fabric also revealed a black corset-like undergarment with a plunging neckline of its own.

18. Nanoka Hara

Nanoka Hara wore an elegant white dress to the Suzume photo-call. The long-sleeved dress had a crew neckline and flouncy sleeves that cinch at the wrists.

The 19-year-old’s ankle-length gown revealed black closed-toe heels with chunky chain detailing at the top.
