We all know that being a celebrity kid certainly has its perks, but what is considered “too much” when it comes to spoiling them? Gifting a toddler luxury handbags with five-digit price tags probably makes the cut. In Hollywood though, it’s the norm.

Patrick Mahomes, who led the Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl success last month, came been under fire recently when he and his wife Brittany gifted their two-year-old daughter a Chanel handbag. They flaunted the new pressie on social media, and unsurprisingly, this caused an uproar among fans.

From Hermès to Chanel and Louis Vuitton, here are just a few of the most extravagant designer swag that celebrities gave their children.

1. Cardi B and Offset: Kulture

Cardi B and Offset certainly don’t hold back when it comes to spoiling their children. In 2020, Offset gave their daughter, Kulture, a Birkin bag estimated to retail at around US$8,000 at the time, reports Insider. Posts of the gift went viral, with some netizens shaming the couple for buying such an extravagant gift for a child.

Cardi B wasn’t having it though and hit back at the haters, saying celebrity children attend many of the same events adults do: “Kids go to restaurants, kids go to fancy places, celebrity kids, they go do red carpets.”

Clearly, the backlash didn’t deter the rapper duo. A year later Cardi B shared images of Kulture wearing a Minnie Mouse-themed diamond necklace she had bought her for her third birthday. Vanity Fair reports she also bought her diamond bracelets and gifted her a US$48,000 yellow Birkin bag covered in Swarovski crystals, which were shaped in a rainbow.

2. Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott: Stormi

There’s no doubt Stormi Webster lives a life of luxury thanks to the Kardashian/Jenner clan, with each family member often splashing their lives across social media and on their Hulu reality TV show, The Kardashians.

In 2019, to celebrate their daughter’s first birthday, Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott set up an amusement park and called it “Stormiworld”. Teen Vogue reports DJ Khaled presented the then one-year-old, who was wearing a red sequin outfit, with a tiny red Chanel purse. The publication reports that Jenner confirmed it was her daughter’s first Chanel.

As revealed in Jenner’s handbag tour video, the doting mama said she was planning to gift a mini Birkin bag from her collection to her daughter when she’s ready. Jenner also added that she’d be giving a mini Louis Vuitton and mini Prada purse to her kid. They were originally gifts from her mum, Kris.

3. Patrick and Brittany Mahomes: Sterling

In February, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany threw an extravagant party for their daughter Sterling’s second birthday. It was here that she was gifted a mini Chanel purse costing an estimated US$4,800, per People.

Brittany had already been facing backlash for being “annoying” for being so biased towards the Chiefs in the lead-up to the Super Bowl, according to Buzzfeed News.

Either way, the toddler’s new designer bag didn’t help and the scrutiny only added fuel to the fire.

4. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West: North West

When your parents are fashion moguls, your wardrobe is going to be filled with endless designer outfits, right?

Kim Kardashian and ex-husband Kanye West’s eldest daughter, North West was just eight years old when she posted a video on TikTok talking about her wide variety of handbags.

She’s 11 years old but has a designer wardrobe that most would be envious of. According to British media, Blue Ivy has a US$1,400 Louis Vuitton handbag and a Valentino studded clutch bag worth US$2,000. At the 2016 MTV VMAs, she arrived in a blush tulle dress and tiara to match her mum’s outfit. It’s reported her outfit cost a whopping US$9,000.

6. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie: Zahara

It’s easy to think they live a low-key lifestyle now, but rewind to 2007 and Angelina Jolie was spotted out with daughter Zahara donning matching Valentino braided leather shoulder bags. According to Purse Blog, the Hollywood star and her daughter were in NYC when they were snapped with the same off-white bags. The site reports the mini bag had to be custom made and was not readily available at high-end stores.
