Ben Affleck sold his house for US$28.5 million late last year and Jennifer Lopez put her US$42.5 million Bel Air mansion up for sale in February. So, it’s only natural the newlyweds would be on the hunt for an ultra-luxurious home that suits the needs of their blended family. Jennifer has children Emme and Max with singer Marc Anthony and Ben has Seraphina, Violet and Samuel with actress Jennifer Garner.

Not only have the couple splurged on a luxury estate just north of Santa Monica, it’s also a well-known mansion as it belonged to one of the city’s wealthiest families.

Here’s everything you need to know about the home Jen and Ben just dropped US$64 million on.

The last minute change of heart

Hello magazine reports the sprawling eight-bedroom, 11-bathroom mansion is located in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood. The wealthy area is just north of Santa Monica and central Los Angeles. The couple pulled out of another pending deal on a house in the same neighbourhood after they put in an offer on this US$64 million mansion. Affleck and Lopez were initially in for a US$34.5 million home, but that price almost doubled when they viewed this estate.

The mansion’s former wealthy owners

New York Post reports the mansion wasn’t even listed for a week before the couple made an offer.

It was previously owned by Gregory Milken and his wife EJ, one of the wealthiest couples in the city. According to Dirt, the gaming financier bought the home in 2009.

Milken is the eldest son of billionaire Michael Milken, who was known as the “junk bond king”. Milken junior has made a name for himself as the co-founder and managing partner of March Capital, with a specific focus on gaming.

When the house was first listed, it drew immediate attention because of its owners. Of course, the mansion, which falls in the exclusive Riviera pocket of the Pacific Palisades, only appeared on even more people’s radars after Hollywood’s hottest couple put their name on the buyers’ list.

When you’re dropping US$64 million on a house, you can bet it will be filled with the best amenities. Hello reports the mansion has a media room, pool and spa. Lopez is something of a fitness fanatic and has clearly made sure her new pad is equipped for all her needs. According to the magazine, the home also has an 800 sq ft gym.

According to Westside Estate Agency, the compound has a 13,000 sq ft main house and a 3,000 sq ft guest house. The guest house has two bedrooms, four bathrooms and a Japanese spa soaking tub. The estate agency that brokered the deal says there is a long driveway with an oversized motor court, multiple large flat lawns and a back garden measuring 8,000 sq ft.

Dirt reports that the house was built in 2005. The three-story main house is kitted out with dual studies, a cinema and a family room, which connect to a kitchen fitted with an eat-in island and luxury appliances.

Outside there is a space flanked by a fire pit and a four-car garage. The library is fitted with wall-to-wall bookshelves and the house has a lift, too.

The pool is described as resort style and has a spa and fire feature. One of the most impressive features of the house is the views, with the agency describing it has having ocean and mountain views from all vantage points.
