The luxury life of Cantopop diva Joey Yung: the Hong Kong superstar splashes her hefty net worth on luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Hermès and Dior, and high jewellery pieces by Chanel and Celine
Being in the spotlight since 1996, the singer-actress has accumulated a hefty fortune over the years thanks to her decades-long career and clever investments. She’s considered one of the richest celebrities in Hong Kong and has an estimated net worth of US$64 million, per Today Online.
Let’s take a look at how the 42-year-old splashes that cash.
Joey Yung owns multiple luxury flats
As one of the richest singers in Hong Kong, it comes as no surprise that Yung owns a few pricey properties. She reportedly owns not just two or three but 12 around the city, per 8 Days.
Yung is also neighbours with her label mate and close friend Gillian Chung in a luxury flat complex known as Harbour One on 458 Des Voeux Road West, Shek Tong Tsui. According to JayneStars, both ladies forked out US$3.4 million each to buy their 1,700 sq ft homes at the residence back in 2010.
She boasts a chic handbag collection
A fashion fan, Yung loves to collect iconic handbags in mini sizes from high-end labels. She once took to Xiaohongshu, China’s social media and e-commerce platform, to connect with her fans and share her love of bags, per Icon.
The article states that Yung switched to mini bags as she grew older since she only carries around her essentials. She showed off her collection that included a couple of Louis Vuitton minis – one of which was a gift from her friend Chung – two Hermès, multiple Diors and her personal favourite, Jacquemus’ Le Chiquito.
She has a passion for timeless jewellery pieces
Yung loves wearing high jewellery for both prestigious events and on her Instagram feed. She is seen decked out in gems belonging to labels like Chanel, Bulgari, Piaget and Celine, among many others.
In fact, her love for jewellery lead her to collaborating with Emperor Watch and Jewellery, one of Hong Kong’s most prestigious jewellers, and designing her own collection called “Heartbeat” with them. The range includes necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings in white gold and diamond.
She loves splurging on friends and family
But the rich singer doesn’t just splurge on herself. She equally loves to spoil her friends and family with big gifts. She made headlines during her labelmate Chung’s wedding in 2018 when she bought an epic wedding cake for the actress.
The cake was just as luxurious as the rest of Chung’s wedding – a two-metre-tall tower of deliciousness that was said to have cost a hefty US$12,770, per JayneStars. Yung and fellow Cantopop star Charlene Choi splurged on the cake as a gift to their friend.
And that wasn’t the only time Yung was known for spoiling the people she loves. Back when she was dating Wilfred Lau, the singer flew to the United States for her dance training and took Lau with her. According to JayneStars, Yung paid for his travel expenses and was also said to have bought him branded clothing worth tens of thousands of dollars.
She is a fan of Fendi
Yung appears to be a diehard Fendi fan, with her Instagram taken over by clothes and accessories from the Italian luxury label. She also brought attention to the brand when she wore a Rome-inspired Fendi couture dress from the brand’s autumn/winter 2019 haute couture collection during her “Pretty Crazy” concert tour that same year.
And it doesn’t stop there. Thanks to her love for the label, Yung ended up collaborating with Fendi to create a one-of-a-kind designer bag called the Fendi Peekaboo bag. The bag is said to be a tribute to her mum, per local media, as her name means “golden phoenix” – and that’s what the bag is decorated with.
She donates to children’s charities
Despite being a sought-after celeb with a jet-set lifestyle, Yung has taken on another mission in life amid her world of glamour – her very own Joey Yung Charity Fund that she started in 2015. This non-profit organisation seeks to help the children of Hong Kong by providing them with opportunities to learn, states its official website.
Yung also auctioned her paintings during the Covid-19 crisis for children whose schooling had been disrupted by the pandemic, per Channel News Asia. She used the funds raised to buy gadgets for children who couldn’t afford online classes.
