Meet Gavin Casalegno, fan fave on The Summer I Turned Pretty: besides starring on the hit Amazon Prime TV show, he just landed an American Eagle Outfitters campaign – and started modelling at age 4
American author Jenny Han’s bestselling book trilogy The Summer I Turned Pretty has seen a further wave of success since its Amazon Prime adaptation for a streaming series that debuted in 2022.
Ahead of the season two finale this year – airing on August 18 – Amazon confirmed that TSITP would be back for a third season.
Belly might be juggling her conflicting feelings for the two brothers, but the second season has established a clear favourite – Casalegno, who has stolen fans’ hearts with his striking eyes and playful smile.
Here’s what we know about this summer’s heartthrob.

Gavin Casalegno started out as a child model
Casalegno was born in Dallas, Texas on September 2, 1999 and is the oldest of three siblings.
He was just four years old when he was booked for his first modelling gig for JC Penney, one of America’s largest retailers. “I always grew up going to church and a youth pastor told my mum that I had a lot of energy and I should try modelling,” the actor and model told The Daily Front Row in 2022. Since then he has appeared in several commercials for brands such as Papa John’s and Sony with his mother taking up the role of “momager”.
He booked his first film at 11
Although Casalegno is most well known for the playful and popular Jeremiah Fisher in TSITP, the actor has been gracing the screen with impressive performances since he was 12.
The 23-year-old relocated to Los Angeles to seek out more opportunities and was 11 when he landed his first role in the 2011 film Hear Me Out. He went on to take on various roles, including the role of young Shem in 2014’s Noah and young Damon Salvatore in the popular CW Television series Vampire Diaries in 2015.

He identifies with his TSITP character, Jeremiah Fisher
Casalegno has said multiple times that he found it easy to jump into his role as the younger Fisher brother. “It’s crazy! I feel like Jenny wrote this character for me. I’m a golden retriever, happy-go-lucky kind of guy,” the actor told The Daily Front Row. “Not only did I get to play that on screen, but I also got to explore deeper depths of this character. As I’m discovering who Jeremiah is, I’m also discovering a little of who I am in the process. I feel like this character could not be written more for me.”
Where he differs from Jeremiah though is in his approach to dating. While Jeremiah is characterised as flirtatious and a bit of a playboy (until he falls for Belly), Casalegno is more intentional when it comes to relationships and said in an interview with Cosmopolitan that he dates with the intent to marry.

He is a Christian who posts about the Bible on social media
One of Casalegno’s passions is his faith. The actor is a Christian and his social media often shows him reading his Bible as well as listening to worship music. In fact, one of the actor’s projects was a 2012 Christian film called I Am Gabriel in which he played the role of the angel.
He has an eye for fashion
“I enjoy fashion. There’s something magical about how fashion can give you so much confidence when you walk in the room,” the actor revealed in his interview with the Daily Front Row.
Casalegno and his TSITP co-stars Tung and Briney recently landed a campaign with American Eagle Outfitters for this year’s back-to-school season.
