When it was announced that Mean Girls would be returning to our screens, this time in the form of a musical film, there was one question on everyone’s lips: will the beloved original cast members reprise their roles for the feature?

According to the most recent US media reports, it’s still up in the air. With main character Lindsay Lohan’s unexpected Hollywood comeback last year, and Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams’ thriving acting careers, many fans are hoping to see them return to their roots to rejoin the smash hit that catapulted them to fame when it was released in 2004.

However, in February, a handful of cast members for the musical were revealed (including The Office’s Jenna Fischer) – and the list didn’t include any of the earlier “Plastics”.

Plus, with Lohan’s recently revealed pregnancy news, she’ll surely be busy in the lead up to new mama life.

Either way, pop culture fanatics are counting down the days until they get to watch the latest adaptation of the cult classic, which comes after the Mean Girls 2 sequel was released a decade ago.

But all this prompts another pressing question: who’s the richest OG cast member in 2023? We looked to the internet whizzes at Celebrity Net Worth for the down low …

9. Jonathan Bennett – US$1 million

The love interest from Mean Girls, Jonathan Bennett has kept himself busy since his days of playing Aaron Samuels.

The 41-year-old LGBTQ+ icon is a host on iHeartRadio’s PrideCast podcast, and runs his own travel company, Outbound, which plans all-inclusive cruises for the LGBTQ+ community. Besides starring in a string of festive films, Bennett also co-wrote The Burn Cookbook, a hilarious cookbook that uses puns from Mean Girls. Think: “fetch-uccine”, “mean-grills” and plenty of pink, not just on Wednesdays.

8. Lindsay Lohan – US$2 million

Lindsay Lohan, who plays the film’s protagonist Cady Heron, may have hit several major bumps in her personal life over the years, but she’s proved herself a true comeback queen of late. Finding her feet after moving to Dubai, she returned to screens late last year with a new Netflix show, and appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon teasing a Freaky Friday sequel.

Given her prolific acting career as a youngster, many will be surprised to see Lohan so low down this list. At her peak she was believed to have earned a whopping US$28 million from her various films and TV projects. However, struggles with alcohol, an overly lavish lifestyle and stints in prison saw much of her money disappear.

Still, since marrying the assistant vice-president of Credit Suisse and with several new projects on the go – not to mention a new baby on the way – we can only imagine she’ll continue to rebuild and find herself further up the list in future.

7. Tim Meadows – US$4 million

Tim Meadows will be reprising his role as the principal Mr. Duvall once again in the upcoming film, producer Tina Fey confirmed to E!

The 62-year-old is also known for his long-running skits for Saturday Night Live in the 1970s, and continues to do stand-up comedy to this day.

6. Lacey Chabert – US$4 million

Some of the most iconic quotes from Mean Girls come from Lacey Chabert’s gossipy Gretchen Wieners.

Her real-life personality is a far cry from the superficial clique follower, however. Now 40, the doting mama is an executive producer for Hallmark films and told Vulture she would “of course” be interested in starring in a Mean Girls reboot if asked. She also runs a fashion line for shopping channel HSN.

5. Lizzy Caplan – US$5 million

Lizzy Caplan, 40, went on to star in various other popular films and TV shows including The Interview (2014), Now You See Me 2 (2016) and Castle Rock (2019).

Playing Janis Ian – the rebellious and outspoken outsider who befriends Lohan’s character in the film – the queen bee’s nemesis has made a great name for herself in showbiz since.

4. Amanda Seyfried – US$16 million

Easily considered one of the most successful actresses to come out of Mean Girls, Amanda Seyfried, 37, has been making her mark on Hollywood for years now with films such as Jennifer’s Body, In Time and Red Riding Hood, to name a few. Meanwhile, her singing experience in Mamma Mia and Les Misérables surely make her the ideal candidate for an upcoming musical, don’t they?

It’s hard to imagine anyone else besides Amanda Seyfried playing Karen Smith, the dim-witted, weather-predicting member of The Plastics, but the actress recently revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that the role nearly went to Blake Lively.

3. Rachel McAdams – US$25 million

Despite being a veteran in the industry, Rachel McAdams says that the most-quoted line of her career is still “Stop trying to make fetch happen” from Mean Girls, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Besides starring alongside showbiz bigwigs in films like Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and the critically-acclaimed Spotlight with Mark Ruffalo and Michael Keaton, the 44-year-old bombshell added another feather to her cap by joining the MCU with Doctor Strange alongside Benedict Cumberbatch.

In one interview she gave back in 2021, when asked about reprising her role as Regina George, she said: “It would be fun to play Regina George later in life and see where life took her after Mean Girls.”

2. Amy Poehler – US$25 million

What’s the 411 with Amy Poehler these days? A US$25 million bank account, as it turns out. The hilarious, self-proclaimed “cool mum” to Regina George, Poehler has stacked up her cash over the years thanks to her career as one of Hollywood’s most successful comedy actresses.

The 51-year-old Parks and Recreation alum is also the founder of Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls, Paper Kite Productions and Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.

1. Tina Fey – US$75 million

The brains behind the production comes in strong at No 1 with a mega net worth of US$75 million.

Tina Fey, who was screenplay writer for the original Mean Girls, will also be in charge of the upcoming musical film, and will reprise her role as Ms. Norbury.

The 52-year-old makes the bulk of her fortune through her television career and screenwriting skills. Together with her partner-in-crime, Poehler, the two are kicking off the first leg of their comedy tour in April.
