HBO’s The Idol may not be getting rave reviews – in fact, quite the opposite – but there’s at least one great thing to come out from the maligned TV show: a solid real-life friendship between its high-profile co-stars, K-pop fashion queen Jennie and Lily-Rose Depp.
Jennie, who hails from K-pop mega group Blackpink, made her Hollywood acting debut in the show, alongside Johnny Depp’s nepo baby daughter who has previously starred in flicks like The King (2019) and Voyagers (2021).

It may be the first time the twosome have worked together, but they seem to have hit it right off, often sharing selfies together and bragging about one another’s talents in interviews.
But on second glance, should we be so surprised? They’ve got a heck of a lot in common.

HBO’s star-studded drama The Idol follows the story of an aspiring pop idol called Jocelyn (played by Depp) and her complex relationship with a self-help guru and cult leader Tedros, played by The Weeknd (aka Abel Makkonen Tesfaye). Jennie was cast for the role of Dyanne, a backup dancer and close friend to Jocelyn.
