Messages of support and condolences are continuing to pour in after news that Sandra Bullock’s long-term partner Bryan Randall died on August 5. Randall’s family confirmed in a statement that he had been battling ALS for three years.
Bullock, 59, and Randall, 57, were together for eight years, according to E! News. The family said Randall chose to keep his journey with ALS private and they did everything they could to honour his request.

Bryan Randall was a photographer
Randall was a professional photographer by trade. He ran his own company, Bryan Randall Photography, and focused on outdoor scenes and children’s portraits.
He was raised in Portland, Oregon but created a life for himself in California. According to People magazine, Randall briefly studied acting at Anthony Meindl’s Actor Workshop, a well-known LA drama school. Previous students from the studio include Jenna Dewan and Shailene Woodley, per Hollywood Life.
His modelling work
He was in rehab in the 1990s
Bryan has a daughter, Skylar Staten Randall, from a previous relationship. According to NY Post, Bryan met Skylar’s mother Janine Staten while they were both in rehab when they lived in Oregon in the early 1990s.
A source told NY Post that they were heroin users. The publication reports that after Bryan got out of rehab, and while Staten was pregnant, he was “never around”.
In 2007, Staten died suddenly while her daughter was under her care, states the same source. The report adds that Skylar went to live with her grandmother, Perri Johnson, who also sadly passed away not long after.
Per the NY Post, it was during this time that Bryan cleaned up his act and stepped up to become a dad. His daughter, now 29, moved in under his care and their relationship developed.
The death of Bryan has resulted in an outpouring of messages for Skylar, who has now lost both of her parents.
A low-key romance
Bullock adopted her son Louis in 2010 and daughter Laila in 2015, and referred to Randall as their father, explaining in the Red Table Talk interview that “we share two beautiful children – three children, his older daughter. It’s the best thing ever”.

According to the Mayo Clinic, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It causes loss of muscle control and worsens over time. Initial symptoms may include weakness in an arm or leg, trouble swallowing or slurred speech. The eventual decline in muscle control affects the ability to move, speak, eat and breathe. There is no cure for ALS, states the source.
