They’re focused on improving themselves. They understand that health is wealth. They’re also figuring out their path in life and making their mental health a priority. Fame and fortune have seen their lives catapult into the public eye, but they’ve navigated the pitfalls and have seemingly come out the better for it.

Chris Hemsworth, Henry Cavill, Brett Dalton and Sam Jones III epitomise what being famous at 40 looks like in 2023, with the Thor actor’s birthday coming up on August 11. Here’s how the talented men have ensured longevity for both themselves and their careers.

1. Chris Hemsworth

He’s a Marvel icon, arguably becoming the face of modern action films. But after 12 years in Hollywood and a milestone birthday, Hemsworth has spent much of 2023 reflecting on his life and trying to figure out his “meaning”.

In an interview with GQ magazine, the Aussie actor said that he has spent years actively trying to avoid being alone with his thoughts, choosing to focus on work and his career.

The Hollywood heartthrob, who first entered acting with a role on Aussie soap opera Home and Away, told the publication that after his grandfather died, he began thinking about his own life. During the filming of National Geographic series Limitless, it emerged that Hemsworth has two copies of the APOE4 gene, which means his risk factor for Alzheimer’s – the same disease his grandfather had – is eight to 12 times the average. That lead to the comic book icon actor re-evaluating his life and choosing to focus on the things that are important: ensuring longevity, prioritising his family and making a difference. Oh, and surfing. He’s a really good surfer.

2. Henry Cavill

Whether you know him as Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher, Charles Brandon from The Tudors or Superman himself, there’s no doubt that Cavill has cemented his seat in Hollywood’s history books.
Cavill, who turned 40 in May, has focused on his physical prowess over the past few years because “it’s part of the job”. In an interview with The Gentleman’s Journal, the British actor said he chose to focus on his physique after he was told he was “too chubby” for the role of James Bond when auditioning against Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan.

On the set of The Witcher, he said he could spend up to 17 hours a day working, so ensuring his diet and exercise were being looked after became a priority … as his physique now well shows.

3. Brett Dalton

Agents of S.H. I. E. L. D star Brett Dalton has maintained a strong fan following after his portrayal of agent Grant Ward in the TV adaptation of the Marvel comic. The California-born actor told Da Man in an interview that acting has always been his dream.

Though he has a “baby face”, Dalton turned 40 in January. The hunky actor describes himself as a “kid from a humble family who always had big dreams”. He said his parents encouraged him to do so, instilling the idea that if he worked hard enough, he could do whatever he wanted. And we think his efforts have definitely paid off.

Sam Jones III shot to fame for his role of Pete Ross in the hit show Smallville. Later, he landed roles in Blue Mountain State and All Light Will End. He has also dabbled in music and producing films.

He turned 40 in April and has become synonymous for his high-energy workouts and dramatic body transformation. Ripped from head to toe, Jones has focused on harnessing his strength through physical exercise.

In 2011, he was sentenced to 366 days in federal prison after being convicted of conspiracy to possess illegal drugs with the intent to distribute. Twelve years after his encounter with the law though, Jones boasts plenty of fitness brand endorsements, showing that it’s definitely possible to turn one’s life around.
