5 Sylvester Stallone controversies not in his new Netflix docu, Sly – from The Expendables star’s famous feud with Arnold Schwarzenegger and rocky marriage with Jennifer Flavin, to an adult film role
- The Hollywood icon is the latest to hop on the docuseries bandwagon, with his new film – but some viewers think it skipped over some important controversies throughout his career
- His wife – with whom he shares kids Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet – nearly divorced him; his first role was in adult flick The Italian Stallion; not to mention those drug and sexual assault allegations
Sylvester Stallone is one of the most recognisable faces in Hollywood.
And now the Expendables star has a new Netflix documentary, Sly, released at the end of October – and it has been met with mixed reviews. While the film touches on his career highs and the loneliness of fame, it firmly sidesteps any controversial topics that have surrounded the star.
Here are five controversies that have defined the film legend over the years.
1. Sylvester Stallone’s sexual assault allegations
His all-American workhorse brand has been marred by a string of sexual assault allegations, all of which Stallone, 77, has denied. In 2018, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said there was not enough evidence to prosecute the star over allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in 1987 and 1990. The issue was raised in 2017 and, according to NBC, it was outside of the statute of limitations.
In another case, according to The Guardian, a 1986 police report revealed that a 16-year-old girl had accused the movie star and his bodyguard of sexually assaulting and threatening her. Multiple reports also cited how Stallone agreed to a settlement with his half-sister Toni-Ann Filiti over abuse allegations. Stallone reportedly said the allegations were blackmail, but agreed to the payment terms.
