Celine Dion is widely recognised as a musical icon, but in her personal life she is a mother of three, and has often said publicly that being a mum is the thing that makes her the most proud.

Although they’ve remained relatively under the radar, Dion does occasionally share snippets of her kids on social media. Last week, the talented singer made her first public appearance in three years according to CNN, stepping out with her three sons at an ice hockey game in Las Vegas.

“My boys and I had such a fun time visiting with the Montreal Canadiens after their hockey game with Vegas Golden Knights in Las Vegas Monday night,” the “My Heart Will Go On” songstress wrote on her Instagram.

Last year, the 55-year-old had to postpone multiple tour dates after being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, according to CNN.

So who are her three sons, who have supported her through thick and thin?

Dion and her late husband René Angélil share three sons together: René-Charles, 22, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 13. As reported in People Magazine, Angélil passed away in 2016 after battling throat cancer.

“I feel extremely fortunate as a mother that – it’s probably the thing I’m the most proud of – I prepared my children for how to live … how to live with him without his presence,” she told Ellen DeGeneres in 2016.

René-Charles Angélil, 22, was named after his father and is Celine Dion’s eldest child. He was born in January 2001, when Dion was 32, and Angélil was 59, per People. Although the 22-year-old had a low-key childhood, he has been in the spotlight more in recent years, after news emerged that he was pursuing a career in music just like his mum.

As previously reported, the budding musician, who is known to his peers as RC and also goes by the name Bigtip, has produced and rapped over remixes of songs by The Weeknd on his SoundCloud – which then shot to No. 1 and 2 on the platform’s R’n’B & Soul New & Hot chart – and once cameoed in his mum’s performance of “Black or White” by Michael Jackson on stage in Paris. His hobbies also reportedly include golf, hockey and poker.

Dion also has young twins, Nelson and Eddy, 13

Per People, Dion went through six rounds of IVF and one miscarriage before announcing the news that she was pregnant with her fraternal twins Eddy and Nelson.

Born in October 2010 in West Palm Beach, Florida, the twins were dubbed a “double blessing” by the couple at the time.

Eddy’s name was inspired by producer Eddy Marnay, who helped with Dion’s first five albums, according to People. Dion’s rep told the publication that “He was like a father to her. Eddy is a major influence in both Celine and René’s lives.”

Nelson, now 13, was named after the late former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela, who Dion once met on a tour, per the same source.

“Celine and René want their children to be inspired by their names, because they were so inspired by these men,” Dion’s rep told the magazine at the time.

When describing the twins, Dion told Hello! in November 2010, that “One is more gutsy than the other. Nelson seems to have a little stronger personality right now. He’s the tougher of the two.”

Dion has always been close with her three sons. They have helped each other get through the grief of losing Angélil. “So I got myself a huge, huge, huge bed and I sleep with my twins. They are comforting me a lot. I need them. I need them close,” Dion told British media in 2017, before adding, “When it’s time for them to say they want their room, their room’s ready,” she said. “But we watch a lot of TV together. I’m discovering Disney.”

In 2020, the “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” superstar shared another tribute to her twins for their birthday. “Nelson and Eddy, you have been bringing so much joy, love and laughter into our lives every single day for the past 10 years,” Dion wrote.
