With his estimated net worth of US$160 billion, the owner of the world’s biggest online retailer, Amazon, naturally has his pick of luxury mansions wherever he goes.

From starting an online bookstore in 1994 and growing a now multitrillion-dollar company, Jeff Bezos has stockpiled an impressive property portfolio worth millions along the way. Think luxury homes from Beverly Hills to Hawaii and now Miami. Here’s a look at his impressive property empire.

Miami: Indian Creek island

On November 3, Bezos told his 4.1 million-plus followers on Instagram that he would be leaving his long-time base of Seattle to move to Miami. He said he wanted to be near his parents, who now live in Miami, and his fiancée Lauren Sánchez would be joining him for the big move.

The announcement came after Bezos bought a US$79 million mansion on south Florida’s Indian Creek island, nicknamed the “Billionaire Bunker”. The home has seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and three half-baths, and is spread across a sprawling 19,064 sq ft, reports New York Post. It has a theatre, library, wine cellar, sauna, six garage spaces and lift.

The purchase came just a few months after he dropped US$68 million on another luxury home in the island, per Bloomberg. The homes are next to each other.

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home sits on 1.1 hectares (2.8 acres), and neighbours include Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.

According to Town and Country magazine, Indian Creek island is a one square km (0.4 square mile) municipality about a 20-minute drive from Miami Beach. The development is gated, with its own police force and armed marine force that circles the development 24 hours a day. The privacy and number of residences (in 2022, there were only around 30) make the location a haven for the ultra-rich.

Back in April 2020, the e-commerce giant finalised a deal on a three-bedroom condo on the 20th floor of 212 Fifth Ave. It set him back US$16 million. According to New York Post, the purchase was just the latest by the Amazon billionaire in the same building. In June 2019, he dropped US$80 million on the penthouse and two apartments beneath it.

Realtor.com reported that the three-storey penthouse and apartments on the levels below it were bought by Bezos with a view to create a single connected home.

The building has a fitness centre, yoga studio, treatment room, game room, meeting room, catering kitchen and screening room.

Hawaii: Maui

In 2021, Bezos splashed out on a 5.6-hectare (14-acre) estate in Maui, Hawaii, per Hello! He spent US$78 million on the luxury property, looking to further his reach in Hawaii after previously buying property along the shores of La Perouse Bay.

His 2021 purchase comprises three structures. The first has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a total of 4,450 sq ft of living space. The second property on the estate is around 1,840 sq ft, with two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, while the last property is a three-bedroom, one bathroom home on 1,815 square feet.

Washington DC: Textile Museum

In 2016, he paid around US$23 million for the former Textile Museum in the prestigious Kalorama neighbourhood. Soon after, he spent US$12 million on renovations, reports Washington Post. At the time, neighbours included Barack and Michelle Obama, and Trump and Kushner. Covering 27,000 sq ft, the mansion was originally built in 1914 and has 10 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, 11 fireplaces and six powder rooms.

It was later reported that Bezos expanded his DC property portfolio, purchasing a 4,800 sq ft home in 2020. The Washingtonian reported that the four-bedroom home was built in 1951 and boasts a 700-bottle wine cellar, roof deck and vaulted ceilings. That purchase set him back around US$5 million, according to reports.

Beverly Hills: Harry Warner Estate

Per the New York Post, Bezos bought producer David Geffen’s 12,254 sq ft home near Sunset Boulevard. The eight-bedroom, 10-bathroom estate was bought for US$165 million and boasts a koi pond, lagoon-like pool and spa, waterfalls, tennis courts and an outdoor fireplace.

Per Business Insider, Jack Warner began building on the estate in 1937. It was sold in 1990 to Geffen, who later sold it in a record-breaking deal to Bezos. Since he bought the historic estate, Bezos has done major remodelling and reconstruction.

Bezos expanded his Beverly Hills estate footprint, purchasing a solar-powered seven bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion in 2007 for US$24.45 million. The home has an eat-in kitchen with a fireplace, a media room and a main bedroom with a private veranda. Per the New York Post, he bought a second home in the area for US$12.9 million. According to Mansion Global, the house was built in 1956 and is spread across 4,500 sq ft.

It was built in the 1920s and has undergone several renovations since. According to The Wall Street Journal, the house has oak furniture and a barn, and is filled with historical paintings of the home when it was first built.

In 1998, Bezos paid around US$10 million in one of the first big property deals he made after his new-found success. Realtor reports the home has five bedrooms, four bathrooms and is near the local post office and grocery store. He expanded his home base and in 2005, spent US$50 million on a neighbouring 8,3000 sq ft mansion. Combined, the properties had 95 metres (310ft) of shoreline. According to multiple reports, Bezos then spent around US$28 million in renovations, adding to the combined value of the sprawling property.
