Hugh Jackman and his son were spotted enjoying some family time in New York on March 17, per British media. The Aussie actor, 55, and his 23-year-old son Oscar were as dressed-down and low key as ever, with Jackman sporting a cap and face mask, and Oscar opting for a chic beige jacket and loose-fitting trousers. The photos show a fully grown Oscar matching his dad’s height (190cm) as they walk side by side.

Oscar is Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness’ first child together. According to People, he was born in May 2000, and his parents adopted him that same year. Per Jackman’s interview with the publication, the couple always knew they were going to adopt. “Our motivation behind adopting was, ‘Where is the need?’” he said. “And we just knew from talking with people in that space, when we were looking around, that the biggest need is in mixed-race kids.”

His sister Ava was also adopted by his parents

After welcoming Oscar into their lives, Jackman and Furness decided to grow their family by adopting a baby girl, Ava, in 2005, per People. Oscar’s sister has also remained out of the spotlight and is rarely seen with her father at public events.

He’s part Bosnian

Oscar’s parents have reportedly done their best to honour his heritage as he’s grown up. According to Furness’ interview with People in 2020, Oscar has Bosnian roots, so they wanted him to learn more about his background and culture. “When my son was younger, he found out he was part Bosnian, so we went and got this Croatian/Bosnian cookbook and he was very proud to carry that around when he was 7 years old,” she told the publication.

Like, isn’t it such a flex to say your dad plays Wolverine?! Oscar reportedly realised he could use his father’s name to his advantage back when he was still a teen, Jackman told ET in 2018.

“Once he was on the beach. He was talking to a girl, he was about 13, he was talking to a girl, who I guess to be about 15, and he started walking towards me,” Jackman said. “He came up to me and he started walking ahead of the girl, and he goes, ‘Dad, Dad, Dad, she’s coming over. I told her you’re Wolverine, just go with it.’ I was like, ‘I am the wingman for my 13-year-old boy.’”

He’s very private

You won’t find much online about Oscar Jackman, besides what his parents have said about him. Unlike some celebrity children, he has chosen not to have a public social media account or – contrary to his early tactics with the ladies – use his father’s name to gain fame. Not yet anyway.
