Who is Chuando Tan, the Singaporean who ‘never ages’? The 58-year-old photographer went viral for his insanely youthful looks in 2017, and works with the likes of Janet Jackson, Rita Ora and Shu Qi
You’d be forgiven for thinking Chuando Tan was a 25-year-old, because he certainly looks it.
But no, that age is not even close. In fact, he’s more than double it. He’s 58.
Yup. It’s no wonder he went viral when netizens discovered him. The one-time pop star from Singapore continues to confound people as he displays all the characteristics of a healthy 20-something – from his flawless skin to his ripped physique.
But how on earth does he do it?
Here’s everything we know about the Singaporean “man who never ages”:
What does Chuando Tan do for work?
According to the studio’s Instagram, he and his business partner Frey Ow also photographed Janet Jackson’s 2008 album cover for Discipline.
Per CNA Lifestyle, he’s also been trying his hand at acting in recent years, and made his debut in Precious Is The Night in 2020. He’s even published a coffee-table book about his “journey and perspective towards life”, according to his interview with the same outlet.
How does he stay healthy?
That’s the million-dollar question. Besides having good genes, of course, Tan has various healthy habits that have kept him in good shape. Last year, he described his morning routine to CNA Lifestyle, which he said includes a hearty breakfast – protein shakes or oatmeal with eggs, honey and avocado – and steamed or grilled chicken or fish in broth with rice for lunch and dinner.
It’s clear he works out hard too. “The activities that you do during the day should be equal to the calories that you burn during that day – as simple as that. And the amount of food that you consume during the day is equal to the calories that you put in your body,” he told the publication.
How did Chuando Tan go viral?
Per British media, Tan went viral back in July 2017 after a Chinese website promoted his Instagram profile, which led to a huge spike in the number of followers on his account.
“[I got] tonnes of messages from strangers all around the world. Even TV stations and notable news websites – they all wanted to know how I did it,” he told CNA, adding that he felt overwhelmed “and stayed home for a good two weeks”.
He says he is “ageing like everyone else”
While it doesn’t look it from the outside, Tan admitted to CNA that he feels his age on the inside. “Deep down inside I know I’m already [then] 56, and I’m ageing like everyone else. I could be a person who looks like a healthy version of someone my age right?
“I do feel the pressure. Because, deep inside I know I’m not that young. I’m ageing. So I’m not going to give the false impression that I’m forever young. Maybe they all want a short cut, a secret to how to keep their youth?” he said.
