Who is Harrison Butker, the controversial Kansas City Chiefs kicker accused of making sexist, homophobic remarks? The NFL player married his childhood sweetheart – and Patrick Mahomes once said they ‘don’t talk’

- The NFL seems to be distancing itself from the Kansas City Chiefs kicker after he’s been accused of making sexist and homophobic remarks, stating, ‘his views are not those of the NFL as an organisation’
- Butker, who’s made his conservative Catholic beliefs well known, assailed Pride Month and president Joe Biden’s stance on abortion – and praised his wife for embracing the role of a homemaker
Butker appeared as the commencement speaker last week at Benedictine College, a private Catholic liberal arts school in Kansas, and said most of the women receiving degrees were probably more excited about getting married and having children.

But Jonathan Beane, NFL senior vice-president and chief diversity and inclusion officer, said in a statement released Thursday that, “Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”

Butker, who’s made his conservative Catholic beliefs well known, also assailed Pride Month, a particularly important time for the LGBTQ+ rights movement, and president Joe Biden’s stance on abortion. “I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolical lies told to you,” Butker added in his speech.
“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that most you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say that her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother,” he said.

He also said his wife embraced “one of the most important titles of all. Homemaker”.
