Is Nara Smith the domestic goddess of Gen Z? The 22-year-old model had her first child with husband Lucky Blue Smith at 18, and got 3 million TikTok followers – and backlash – for her ‘tradwife’ videos
With over 3 million followers, the 22-year-old’s quaint lifestyle and her babies’ unique names have sparked both amusement and buzz online, stirring up discussions about modern femininity.
Netizens have voiced a range of opinions about the movement, from those lamenting what appears to be a return to conservative, often misogynistic household roles, to women who aspire to being “tradwives” themselves, considering it an attractive alternative to a 9-to-5 grind at the office.
Foodie website Delish published an article titled “What happens to the stay-at-home girlfriend after a break-up?” quoting lifestyle influencer Bella Greenlee cautioning, “If you give a man the power to feed you, he also has the power to starve you.”
From making Cinnamon Toast Crunch for her kids to bagels and cream cheese for her fourth wedding anniversary – from scratch and while donning impeccable outfits, of course – she seems to be spending a lot of time in the kitchen. However, she explained in one of her videos that she enjoys taking care of people “by cooking for them”, adding, “This is not something that is expected of me or something that I have to do.”
Read on to for a deeper dive into Nara Smith’s seeming domestic goddess life.
Nara Smith was born in South Africa
Smith was born in South Africa in 2001, but moved to Frankfurt, Germany when she was just three months old, reports People. She’s described her ethnic background as “South African/German” on Instagram.
She has three siblings: a younger brother and sister, and an older half-brother who lives in South Africa.
She started modelling at age 14
She married Lucky Blue Smith soon after meeting him
The couple tied the knot in February 2020 at a small beach wedding in California, attended by a close-knit group of friends and family.
Nara Smith and Lucky Blue Smith share three kids
A few months after their marriage, Nara and Lucky Blue announced on Instagram that Nara was expecting their first child, surprising many of their followers due to their ages at the time – Nara was 18, and Lucky Blue was 22.
But Nara had intentionally decided to become a mum at such a young age, influenced by her father’s regrets about having children later in life. “I’ve always wanted to be a young mum. I know it’s not for everyone,” she shared in a TikTok video in March.
According to Today, the couple welcomed their third child, Whimsy Lou, on April 11.
And if you’re scratching your head a little at that name choice, you aren’t the only one …
Nara Smith has chosen unconventional names for her kids
Buzzfeed recently highlighted a TikTok from earlier this month where Nara talked about names she was considering for their third baby, such as Tink, Lemon, Bow (as a middle name) and Dottie.
She explained in the video, “For reference, our kids have pretty unique names. Our daughter’s name is Rumble Honey Smith and our son’s name is Slim Easy Smith.”
She’s still exploring her spiritual views
In another “get to know me” video, she tackled questions from her followers regarding whether she had adopted her husband’s faith. “I’m not in any way a hardcore Mormon or anything like that,” she said, highlighting that she’s still on a path to discovering her own spiritual views, reported People.
