Cate Blanchett’s eldest son, Dashiell John Upton, is set to pursue a career in Hollywood like his famous mother. However, he prefers to work behind the camera – like his father, writer, producer and director Andrew Upton.

Dashiell recently nabbed a gig on the set of the Ryan Gosling action blockbuster The Fall Guy. Specifically, he worked as an assistant in the camera department for five months.

A source described as a friend of the family told Yahoo! Lifestyle that he didn’t name-drop his mum during his time on the project. “Dash never really told anybody who his mother was – as far as everyone else on set knew, he was just a recent graduate who was lucky to land himself on a Gosling shoot,” detailed the source. “He didn’t want people to think he was there just because of who his mum is.”

Blanchett and her husband share four children: Dashiell, 22, Roman, 20, Ignatius, 16, and Edith, nine. There are virtually no public photos of the kids, besides Dashiell – very likely by design, given Blanchett’s track record of keeping her private life private.

In May 2023, Upton arrived on the Cannes red carpet with his mum Blanchett for the premiere of Killers of the Flower Moon. He wore a simple tuxedo for the big event, while the Tár actress stunned in a custom black and white Louis Vuitton gown.
