Retirement adviser and former swimmer Thomas Nguyen is the first and only Asian-American contestant on ABC’s popular dating show The Bachelorette.

The show opened to Tran, 26, being introduced to 25 men, all vying for her attention. After two episodes, 10 have already been eliminated. Among the 15 remaining contestants, fellow Vietnamese American Thomas Nguyen is proving himself to be a strong contender.
Here’s what we know about Nguyen.
His parents immigrated from Vietnam

During their initial conversations, Nguyen and Tran bonded over their shared experiences as the children of immigrant parents. “My mum dropped out of pharmaceutical school to take on another job to sponsor her whole family over from Vietnam,” Nguyen said.
“I’ve watched my parents fight for each other and I want a marriage like that,” he later told the cameras.
He was once an Olympic hopeful
