People reported that the couple, who went to the same private school in Santa Monica, California, began dating some 20 years after graduating and eloped shortly thereafter; they’re now parents to two sons.
In a recent appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, the actor opened up about his relationship, saying it was Haden who made the first move by asking him to dinner. Recalling the moment, Black said it was as if “Heaven opened up above my head, because it was like, this is the thing that I would always want to happen”.

Talent runs in the Haden family. Tanya and her two sisters, Petra and Rachel, are all musicians. Their father is late jazz bassist Charlie Haden and their grandfather, Carl E. Haden, headed the country-styled Haden Family singers. The sisters perform together as The Haden Triplets, and have worked with their singer-songwriter brother, Josh, on an album titled The Family Songbook.
Black has previously expressed interest in collaborating with his wife, and made an appearance on his father-in-law’s 2008 album, Rambling Boy.
