Any couple that manages to stay married for over four decades must be doing something right. But according to Hollywood legend Samuel L. Jackson and his wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, it’s making mistakes, forgiving them and still choosing to stay together that’s been the secret to their long-lasting union. The Pulp Fiction actor is the cover star of AARP’s October/November 2024 issue and in an all-encompassing interview, he touched on how he and his wife have made their relationship last.
“I’ve done s*** in my marriage that’s crazy, you know,” the 75-year-old shared candidly before adding, “She has too, in her head or whatever in reality, but you got to go, ‘Is that a break-up offence?’ Or is it just that we need to spend a little time together and get some understanding about it?”
The Django Unchained star continued to drop pearls of marital wisdom, emphasising that “there are certain things that you learn to ignore about people – that she’s learned to ignore about me”. Ultimately, the key, he says, is “a lot of tolerance, because everybody’s got flaws, and not giving up when it would be easy to give up”.
In 2022, the couple also revealed that they’d once made a pact to never give up on their relationship. “We always said the most revolutionary thing that Black people could do was stay together … we made a decision to say, ‘We are going to stay together no matter. We’ll figure it out.’”
