According to his profile on Prabook, Lloyd Klein was born in Montreal, Canada to French parents, and was raised in Paris, France.

Per WWD, Klein got his big break when he scored the job of head designer at Maison Madame Grès at the age of just 25 in 1994, before leaving the company to launch his eponymous brand four years later. He opened his first independently owned retail location in Los Angeles in 2006. “We found that there is an amazing couture clientele in Los Angeles,” Klein told WWD at the time. “I think Los Angeles women have much better style than women in New York or Paris. Also, I find the light is very special here. We have no tall buildings, so you can see the sky.”
