Although rarely in the public eye, the 17-year-old granddaughter of the ‘All Night Long’ singer is a dead ringer for her mother, who’s always going to her for beauty tips

Nicole Richie, 43, is all about shielding her children from the spotlight, even though she grew up in the wake of her 75-year-old superstar father, Lionel Richie. Married to Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden, 45, since 2010, Nicole is the proud mother of two teens, Harlow, 17 and Sparrow, 15 and she’s made it her priority to keep their lives as private as possible.

In April last year, Harlow and Sparrow made a rare public appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of Nicole’s movie Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. The whole clan, including grandpa Lionel and his girlfriend Lisa Parigi, 34, strutted down the red carpet and fans couldn’t miss how much the children took after their famous parents. Despite the star-studded event, Nicole admits her teenagers are just like any others – and completely unfazed by her Hollywood life, as she told People.

Although Nicole and Joel are all about keeping them under the radar, with very few social media sightings, Nicole gave fans a nostalgic treat for Harlow’s 13th birthday in 2021, posting a rare baby picture of her daughter on Instagram.

Nicole Richie welcomed her first child, daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden, in Los Angeles in 2008. Growing up, Harlow wasn’t exactly the spotlight-loving type, especially during those days when the family would tag along on dad Joel’s concert tours.

In 2020, Nicole shared that her daughter often preferred the quiet comfort of the tour bus to the hustle and bustle of the concert scene. “Sometimes my daughter doesn’t even come,” she told People. “She’s a little more reserved. She’ll hang out on the bus and do art.”
