Brown and Etheredge married in 2012 and have 3 children together – but before all that, the long-time friend of the rapper actually convinced him to walk down the aisle and wed Whitney Houston

Bobby Brown and his wife Alicia Etheredge-Brown enjoyed a low-key date night in Los Angeles last month.

The couple was spotted strolling hand in hand around Beverly Hills, as seen in pics shared by Backgrid. Brown, 56, rocked a double-denim number over a yellow top, while his 51-year-old partner turned up the glam in a black fur coat with a wide-brim hat.

Brown is best known for his former marriage to the late legendary singer Whitney Houston – but it wasn’t always for the right reasons. Brown was often blamed for ruining the former gospel girl’s squeaky-clean image and getting her into partying, but he’s spoken up against the claims on multiple occasions, saying it was a two-way street and calling the accusations a “big misconception”.

These days Brown is open about his past struggles with substance abuse, and says he’s sober from drugs and alcohol. “Being an addict is really hard,” he said on A&E’s Biography: Bobby Brown. “You don’t know you are an addict until it gets worse and worse and worse.”

Etheredge-Brown has been her husband’s manager since 2008, per People magazine. “She’s worked with Macy Gray and Magic Johnson and people like that,” Brown told Complex in 2012. “She’s just a brilliant lady.” They have known each other for much longer though – in fact, they met before Brown even knew Houston.

The duo have known each other for many decades. “We met many years ago, many years ago,” Brown explained to Access Hollywood in 2012. “I believe I was about 18, and we were at a dance place, where people just go and work out their new moves … I met her there, and we became friends, we all hung out.”

“Then I ended up getting married, and after me getting divorced, for some strange reason, I saw her again, and sparks flew,” he added.
