In the wake of the app’s 2017 demise, these 6 social media stars parlayed their massive online fame into successful careers in music, acting and more

Vine will forever hold a special place in the hearts of today’s video creators. As Forbes put it, “Vine walked so TikTok could run.”

The platform let users upload ultra-short, six-second videos that then played on a loop, and forced a new kind of creativity that even the app’s owners hadn’t seen coming. In the process, it forged the careers of some of today’s biggest online stars. So why did Vine disappear?

Despite generating more beloved memes and cultural moments than most apps with twice as many users, Vine failed to keep pace as competitors like Instagram and Snapchat added more and more features – “something that ultimately drove its biggest stars away”, according to The Verge.

So where are those stars now? Let’s take a look …

1. Lele Pons

Like many Viners, Pons rose to fame by not taking herself too seriously – or at least not appearing to. “Kids these days get famous overnight, I remember when I started, it wasn’t like that at all, I had to post something every day to keep the engagement,” she told TMRW magazine.

The hard work she put into her goofy posts paid off, and the Venezuelan has since managed to leverage her fame into a music career, a YouTube Original series (The Secret Life of Lulu Pons), a Shein fashion collab – and a famous husband. She’s married to Puerto Rican rapper Guaynaa.
