Shades of autumn: luxe lipsticks

From Louis Vuitton to Dior, bold lips ruled the runways earlier this year. Mattes have been popular throughout the past year – call it the Kylie Jenner effect – and the trend is set to continue, but keep an eye out for glossy, sexy pouts with a touch of sass that are starting to make a comeback.

CHANEL ROUGE ALLURE INK Chanel has debuted its first lip ink collection, made up of eight different shades of red. Named “ink” because it instantly binds itself to the lips, mimicking the way ink fuses with paper, the new matte lip collection keeps its colour for longer periods of time thanks to a close-knit mesh of polymers, waxes and oils. The highly pigmented velvety blends are easy to apply and easy to wear, keeping your pout lusciously vivid and matte at all times. Plus, the lip inks are infused with jojoba oil, sappan wood and sweet almond oil, making sure your lips stay hydrated.

URBAN DECAY VICE The beauty company responsible for setting trends (think: Naked palette) has just launched a hundred lipsticks. Its new Vice lipstick collection, which features eye-popping shades, combines its present collection with the revival of some of its discontinued classics, including the cult favourite Mrs. Mia Wallace (from Pulp Fiction), which is a fiery, sexy red shade. The lipsticks come in six finishes that range from mega matte to sheer shimmer and are re-packaged in a modernised gunmetal case, a nod to its original shotgun shell case and its philosophy of “beauty with an edge”.

DIOR ROUGE DIOR Dior seeks to reinvent its lip colours with the launch of its new Dior Rouge collection, which debuts this month. The new collection features 36 alluring shades that come in either a supermatte or smooth satin-like finish. Highly anticipated “it shades” include the matte version of the iconic No. 999 shade, courtesy of make-up director Peter Philips. Another shade that’s high on everyone’s waiting list is a topically black lipstick with deep red – almost purple – undertones to it, aptly named “Poison”. The latter, part of the Extreme Matte Shades capsule collection, was most recently seen on models strutting down the runway in Paris during Fashion Week.

MAKE UP FOR EVER X ICONA POP Make Up For Ever teams up with chart-topping Swedish duo ICONA POP and make-up artist Colby Smith to create a 46-strong lipstick collection. The 31crème and 15 matte shades also include two limited-edition shades, a matte deep red (#M401) and a creamy dark blue (#C603) that feature ICONA POP’s signatures on the cases. The new lipstick range uses an innovative Show-Stopping Colour technology that allows it to grind its pigments three times before compressing them to create an intense colour. Its novel formula infused with macadamia and mallow oils means all-day hydrated lips for comfort.
