Breath of fresh air: Celine unveils a feminine yet bold collection at Paris Fashion Week

Celine unveils a feminine yet bold collection at Paris Fashion Week

Celine, under Phoebe Philo’s creative rein, has always been the go-to brand for Parisian enthusiasts, and the new collection has delivered exactly what’s expected from the house with a pinch of refreshing mastery of zesty colours.

Before the show started, Chinese superstar Faye Wong’s appearance on the front row stole the spotlight. Now based in Beijing, the reclusive star rarely makes public appearances these days. Not only did she stop for the cameras before taking her seat, but she went backstage minutes before the show started.

It’s quite understandable that Wong is a Celine fan. The new collection has much to offer for women who long for strong individuality and sophistication.

The spring-summer silhouette is relaxed and loose-fitting, yet with plenty of perfectly-tailored options.

Opening the show were a few over-sized tailored suit jackets worn over cropped flared leather pants. The leather pants are also paired with cap sleeve tops with a belt cinched at waist-high. Jackets are classic Celine and one look, in particular, features a textured leather patch adorning the sleeves to accentuate the workmanship. The somber yet subtly luxurious ensemble will perhaps become a uniform for Celine’s female fans next season.

Easing into daywear was a series of turtle-neck, over-sized cotton shirts worn over loosely pleated chiffon skirts and paired with canvas sneakers.

Moving away from autumn-winter’s earthy palette, the spring-summer collection features a refreshing mix of colours.

Flou cape dresses in a variation of bright shades – citron, mint and magenta – are perfect evening options.

The key bag of the season is a retro-esque, top handle frame bag with a simple metal clasp and is paired with a crescent-shaped pouch as a bag charm.
