Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, and the musical artist Grimes made their rumoured relationship at least “red carpet official” on Monday night when they stepped out together at New York’s Met Gala together.
Grimes appeared to be wearing a choker inspired by the Tesla logo as they attended the fundraising gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, which marked the opening of the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” exhibition.
Here is the logo of Tesla – the American company that specialises in the manufacturing of electric vehicles, energy storage and solar panels – for a comparison.
Entertainment magazine Us Weekly reported that the couple designed Grimes’ dress together over a dinner date and commissioned a team to create the futuristic ensemble.
Musk wore a white tuxedo jacket and a collarless shirt.
Earlier on Monday, entertainment and gossip website Page Six described an unnamed source as saying that Musk and Grimes had been “quietly dating”.
The website said the pair met online about a month ago after Musk contacted Grimes – whose real name is Claire Boucher – when he noticed that she had made a joke about artificial intelligence on Twitter.
The two have not publicly confirmed their relationship.
People using Twitter noticed the “Tesla choker” worn by Grimes and expressed their shock.
