The odd couple: what happens when vintage Gucci clashes with avant-garde Comme de Garçons?

Gucci has been experiencing a creative and financial renaissance ever since its new designer Alessandro Michele took the helm. The Italian fashion house has just launched a collaboration on an exclusive tote bag with Japanese avant-garde label Comme des Garçons, founded by rule-breaking designer Rei Kawakubo. The Shopper adds another item to the two brands’ partnership after their capsule collection of four silk scarves in 2015.
Featuring vintage glamour, the special-edition bag is based on a Comme des Garçons shopper, and is made with brown craft paper enclosed in a PVC shell. Gucci’s signature vertical green and red web stripe and the Comme des Garçons logo are juxtaposed in a minimalist fashion.
Introduced at Comme des Garçons boutiques in Japan in November – where it swiftly sold out – the head-turning accessory has now been rolled out globally.
