Inside London’s V&A Museum's lavish ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams’ exhibition
The Victoria and Albert Museum is hosting the largest exhibition in the UK on the House of Dior – “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams”. The gallery will present Dior’s works from 1947 to present day, including creations by six successful artistic directors who succeeded him.
The house’s eponymous founder, who died in 1957, once said of Britain: “There is no other country in the world, besides my own, whose way of life I like so much. I love English traditions, English politeness, English architecture. I even love English cooking.”
Exploring Dior’s inspiration from Britain’s culture and architecture, the V&A Museum will showcase Dior’s creative collaborations with British manufacturers as well as his early British clients.
A highlight is the Christian Dior dress worn by Princess Margaret for her 21st birthday celebrations. Ensembles of Dior’s fashion shows staged in the UK’s stately homes, including the Blenheim Place, are also part of the show.
The exhibition presents over 500 objects, including more than 200 rare haute couture garments as well as the iconic bar suit, gifted to the V&A by the House of Dior in 1960.
The show will also introduce the craftsmanship of House of Dior ateliers and designers across 11 sections.
Celebrities including English actor Eddie Redmayne attended the opening night.
