STYLE Edit: Hedi Slimane unveils Celine’s visionary design concept at New York flagship

Housing a collection showing Slimane’s rebellious identity, masterstroke precision and stunning artistic balance, the space feels like a museum for the youth he creates for
A new architectural concept for Celine boutiques will be implemented worldwide this year, starting with the new flagship store, Celine at 650 Madison Avenue, New York. Hong Kong has just followed suit.
For the avid shopper, the location may be just another shop to snag one of Celine’s visionary new collection pieces by creative director Hedi Slimane — a black, tailored pantsuit perhaps, or a sequinned jacket embroidered with the graphic designs of Christian Marclay.
But the New York flagship marks another landmark moment in the brand’s history — and one that should not be underestimated in Celine’s relatively short timeline.
The architectural concept is an extension of Slimane’s vision for Celine; it is a museum, of sorts, for the youth he so passionately creates for.
The Paris-born designer and photographer took over the French luxury house from Phoebe Philo last October and debuted with the Spring Summer 2019 collection, with all pieces notably unisex.
Huge changes that jostled long-time Philo fans had made their way from the digital space to the runway. From tinkering with the logo graphic to casting models of a younger demographic to suit the radical new theme of Paris la nuit, there seemed to be no stone unturned in the brand overhaul.
Or so we thought.
