Evening bags, purses, earrings, brooches and necklaces form part of Poly Auction’s ‘Nobel Handbags and Accessories’ sale on April 2

The passing of German designer Karl Lagerfeld in February, at the age of 85, marked the end of an era – not only for the luxury French brand Chanel, but for the fashion world itself.

His wild and whimsical creations were often showcased at equally fantastical locations.

Paying homage to the late designer, Poly Auction, the Hong Kong auction house has curated a Vintage Chanel Collection, which showcases historical jewellery pieces as well as important handbags seen on the runway of his themed fashion shows in recent years. The items will be auctioned next month.

Among the highlights of the sale include a 2016 Métiers d’Art Paris-Rome black and silver lucite, crystal and metal film camera evening bag – with an estimated value of up to HK$100,000 (US$12,740) – and an adorable doll purse from the Métiers d'Art Paris-Bombay pre-autumn 2012 collection.
