STYLE Edit: La Prairie White Caviar skincare collection takes us one step closer to eternal youth

We’ve all seen the rich, opalescent spheres of the La Prairie White Caviar collection. This light-infused collection is an astounding addition to one’s vanity – and was the conceptual muse for artist Chul-Hyun Ahn’s 2019 Edition Art Basel Hong Kong installation, the “Science of Light”.

Even before La Prairie gave us those polished white pearls (that Coco Chanel would have been jealous of), the luxury Swiss skincare brand had extracted the anti-ageing effects of Golden Caviar years earlier.  

Let there be no mistake: La Prairie is the caviar queen of skincare, first using caviar extractions in the quest for eternal youth back in the 1980s. Add to this their innovations in cellular therapy – which was founder Dr Paul Niehans’ scientific breakthrough in 1931 at Clinique La Prairie – and their authority in biotechnology is assured.

The White Caviar collection is the La Prairie evolution of the Golden Caviar breakthrough and its inquiries into the coveted “youthful glow” of decades earlier.

The Swiss scientists of La Prairie claim to have decoded the “Equation of Light” with the White Caviar collection. In other words, these scientists say they have worked out how to achieve optimum luminosity on skin – through colour and reflection.

We may be familiar with the cool, warm and pink undertones when selecting the perfect colour match for foundation – but with the La Prairie science of youthful glows, deciphering colour on the skin for luminosity is split into four pigments, found on different layers of the skin: grey, brown, yellow and red.
