What really happened behind the scenes at Paris Couture Week 2019?
If you have watched some fashion documentaries such as Chanel’s 7 Days Out, which recorded a few of the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s most extravagant shows, or a look back at designer Alexander McQueen’s stunning career in McQueen, you will have caught a glimpse of the madness of fashion away from the runway.
Paris Fashion Week: peek backstage at the best moments
Visiting a show backstage is my personal favourite activity during a fashion week, where you can intimately touch and feel the clothes, and talk to the creatives about the materials and craftsmanship.
It’s like being able to take a mind-calming deep breather between the hectic, high-intensity “workouts” of running ceaselessly from show to show.
This lovely feeling of relaxation is particularly true whenever I am able to catch a glimpse of the couturiers’ ateliers at work, where each sartorial piece they create equals a piece of art.
At the latest couture week autumn 2019, witnessing a model being fitted with a jaw-dropping wedding gown at the Elie Saab salon was a truly stunning moment to behold.
Celine Dion adds star power to Valentino’s show in Paris
Scrutinising the exquisite embroidery work of Chinese couturier Guo Pei makes you never want to leave the showroom. And seeing Valentino’s artisans celebrating with the fashion house’s founding father Valentino Garavani and the current creative director Pierpaolo Piccolo after the presentation pushed the magnificent show to another level.
