Lily Allen stunned the fashion world on Monday when she made her surprise runway debut at the 16Arlington x Antony Price show. Paying homage to Audrey Hepburn’s iconic look from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Allen sauntered down the runway wearing a fitted velvet gown with a plunging neckline and a lime-green lining while smoking a cigarette – it was the ultimate revenge dress.

Several of pop culture and fashion’s most iconic looks have been revenge dresses, worn by figures ranging from Princess Diana and Mariah Carey to Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston.

Earlier this year, Allen confirmed her split from Stranger Things star David Harbour. “My life was falling apart, so I had to go deal with real practical stuff. It was Christmas. I’ve got two kids,” she said during a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, further revealing that she admitted herself into a “place to go and get the help [she] needed” following the split. “I’ve been institutionalised before but not of my own volition. Usually I’ve been sort of pushed there by doctors or concerned family members, but I knew the things I was feeling were too intense,” she added.
Not only has the 40-year-old released a biting revenge album after a seven-year hiatus – West End Girl, which has topped charts since its release – but she’s also on a revenge dress streak.

Allen kicked off this dressing streak with her Halloween costume. She shared the look in a TikTok video with the caption “Who is Madeline though, actually?” on October 31. Allen appeared to be dressed as the titular character from Ludwig Bemelmans’ Madeline children’s book series.
While her pastel blue coatdress, straw hat and red hair ensemble may not be everyone’s idea of revenge dressing, the costume is a tongue-in-cheek spin on her track “Madeline” from her break-up album. The song hints that Harbour may have had an affair with someone named Madeline during his four-year marriage to Allen.
