Take a look inside Taobao’s first offline store in Southeast Asia, now open in Singapore

- Customers previously had to rely on pictures to decide if they wanted to buy something
Bargain hunters, take note: Singapore is now home to Southeast Asia’s first physical Taobao store.
Those who prefer to use build-to-order (BTO) products should rejoice – you can now stock your home full of Taobao furniture without taking a risk on size or quality.
The platform is known for offering trendy furniture at budget prices, but customers previously had to rely on pictures to decide if they wanted to buy something.
Now, the new store gives shoppers the chance to see and test the pieces first.
The Chinese e-commerce giant launched its first physical store in Singapore’s Funan Mall on September 4, which acts as a showroom where customers can see items before buying them online.
Known as China’s eBay, Taobao is the largest e-commerce platform in China, and is operated by the Alibaba Group, owner of the South China Morning Post.
As the online platform moves into the offline sphere, take a closer look inside this game-changing retail development.

Tucked in a corner of Funan mall’s Basement 2, the store has more than 300 items, mostly chosen for their popularity online.

Taobao decided to open the store after the overwhelming popularity of its NomadX showcase at Plaza Singapura last year.
