Canada is home to sprawling stretches of nature and picturesque scenery, all of which make for the ideal road trip, whatever province you find yourself in. While travel remains limited for now, it’s never too early to make post-Covid plans for the future. Here’s a selection of awe-inspiring journeys to embark on across the Great White North.
Calgary to Banff National Park
No visit to Canada is complete without a drive through the country’s iconic Rocky Mountains. A quick way to get among them is to drive from Calgary, Alberta up to Banff National Park. This short but sweet road trip follows the Trans-Canada highway, and takes only around an hour and half to reach the town of Banff. The start of the drive has you breezing through stretches of hilly farmland before entering the mountain ranges, home to a number of great hikes and glaciers. Make a halfway stop at the quaint town of Canmore to refuel and take in the scenery before continuing on to Banff, where a photo stop at Lake Louise is a must.
Vancouver Island, British Columbia
Off British Columbia’s west coast, Vancouver Island is a 90-minute ferry ride from the city of Vancouver and worth a visit if you’re in the area. A road trip around the entire island can take a good couple of days, and stops to include are the Butchart Gardens in Victoria and the beautiful beaches along the shores of Parksville. The quaint town of Ladysmith is also worth a drive-through for its restaurants, bakeries and antique shops.
