The Mid-Autumn Festival is a time of togetherness, an opportunity to reunite with loved ones, but also – some would argue, equally important – to give and receive delicious mooncakes from friends and family. Bakeries and patisseries roll out gift sets and mooncake pairings, from the classic red bean or lotus seed paste with salted egg yolk, to the more unusual like ice cream and black truffle.

This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival is taking place on October 1, and one of the many places offering artisanal treats is the Rosewood Hong Kong hotel, with a collection of assorted mooncake boxes and hampers. The treats come in six flavours, including The Legacy House restaurant’s egg custard mooncake and chocolate mooncake.

Their attention to detail extends to the custom moulds that shape each cake. The architectural lines of the hotel are captured, with the cake stamped with either the Rosewood Hong Kong or The Legacy House seal.

The custom-designed mooncake gift boxes feature artwork by renowned local artist Frank Tang. Each is illustrated with festival accents and a detailed landscape painting, inspired by the legendary Song dynasty landscape painter, Guo Xi.

Tang’s “Endless Vista” series – specially created for the hotel – “takes the viewer on a 360-degree ferry journey from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island”, with panoramic cityscapes and a tour of the iconic buildings, hillsides and harbours that make Hong Kong so famous.

Using a noted symbol of longevity and strength, Tang paints a detailed pine tree at the door of the Rosewood Hong Kong to honour the city as a whole.

The Rosewood hamper contains a cornucopia of treats, besides the mooncakes themselves.

In support of the local community, for every box sold, the Rosewood Hong Kong will donate a lunchbox to ImpactHK, a charitable organisation that provides the homeless and less fortunate in Hong Kong with food, shelter, education, employment opportunities and all-round support.
