It has been a veritable roller coaster, with peaks and troughs for us all, but whether you’re looking to celebrate a year well spent or setting your sights on a better one ahead, one thing is for sure: everyone is ready for a party. And while we’re ready to party hard, these Hong Kong wine and dine institutions are on hand to give 2022 a send-off to remember.

1. Aqua

With its sights firmly fixed on a brighter year ahead, Aqua’s Welcome to the Future New Year’s Eve party begins with a five-course menu and offers patrons front-row seats to the light show display in the harbour. Priced at a fitting HK$2,023 per person, courses include slow-cooked lobster and Kurobuta pork with foie gras and truffle, with an optional two-hour free flow offering of Veuve Clicquot champagne and sake (HK$388). For those who want to keep the party going late into the night, live DJ performances on the rooftop – with two cocktails and free-flowing champagne – begin at 9.30pm.

After opening its doors in 2021, Argo was quick to earn itself a place on Asia’s 50 best bars list. Led by Lorenzo Antorini, Argo boasts a relaxed atmosphere and an innovative approach to cocktails, and it’s clear to see why its reputation has spread. Its New Year’s celebrations offer a range of futuristic cocktails and a night to remember. Tickets cost HK$1,320 and are inclusive of a glass of champagne. With a seated capacity of just 70, we suggest booking well in advance.

3. Cantina

Nobody wants their night to end at a police station, but in this case, you might not mind starting there. Tai Kwun – the old police quarters – hosts an array of countdown celebrations this month. Cantina borrows inspiration from Venice for the night and hosts a Venetian Carnival New Year’s Eve party. Doors open at 9.30pm and the evening promises live performances, a DJ curating the evening’s soundtrack and all manner of masquerade mayhem. Tickets cost HK$498-HK$620 and are inclusive of free-flow Veuve Clicquot champagne and cocktails until midnight, while the party carries on until 2am.

4. Chaat

If you’re more interested in the dining portion of a wine and dine affair, consider a decadent dinner at Michelin-starred Chaat, which serves refined interpretations of Indian street food staples and classics. Chef Manav Tuli’s New Year’s menu includes a tawa oyster with a coconut korma sauce, duck jardaloo cooked with apricots and caramelised onion, and a chocolate cup kulfi made with 70 per cent Valrhona chocolate and finished with almond and rose petal. A table on the terrace offers a view of the evening’s festivities that lie ahead. The New Year’s menu is priced at HK$1,888 per person.

The Ritz-Carlton plays host to all manner of indulgent festivities throughout Christmas, and its New Year’s celebrations are no exception. Guests at Ozone will feel like they’re on top of the world – and raising a glass in the world’s tallest bar, they’d be right to think so. The countdown party on the terrace begins at 10pm and continues into the early hours, but those looking for a full-evening affair can opt for the dinner buffet, priced at HK$1,568 per adult.

6. Salisterra

With panoramic harbour views, thanks to its floor-to-ceiling windows, Salisterra offers guests the chance to see out the year in style. Four or six-course menus (HK$1,588-HK$2,488) carefully curated by executive chef Cary Docherty include indulgent dishes such as lobster consommé and fillet of Wagyu beef. Those looking for something a little more exclusive might opt for a private dining experience, available for between eight and 10 guests and priced at HK$3,388 per person. Resident DJ Guido will see the night through at the Green Room, where free-flow fizz and canapés (HK$1,288) will be on offer until 1am.
