Set to release in the US on January 30, the mockumentary – also featuring Kylie Jenner in her acting debut – is about a pop star preparing for her first arena tour
Charli XCX, a known cinephile whose hilarious Letterboxd reviews went viral in 2024, eventually moved from commenting on films to starring in them. The British pop star appeared in two 2025 films, Erupcja and Sacrifice, and her next project, The Moment, sees the “Brat” hitmaker uncovering the ins and outs of the pop star life.
The A24 production is set to release in the US on January 30 with an impressive cast including Alexander Skarsgård, Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant and – surprisingly – Kylie Jenner, who will be making her acting debut in the upcoming film. It premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival on January 23.

A24, the production house behind 2025 hits like Materialists, Marty Supreme and the highly anticipated Valentine’s Day release of Wuthering Heights, starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, dropped the official trailer for The Moment in December 2025. The clip showed glimpses of XCX preparing for her Brat tour. Deadline describes the film as a mockumentary following a pop star preparing for her first arena tour. It’s said to peel back the curtain on the machinery of fame.

Directed by Aidan Zamiri and co-written with Bertie Brandes, The Moment draws from an original concept by XCX herself. The cast also includes Rosanna Arquette, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Richard Perez, Isaac Powell, Rish Shah, Tish Weinstock and Michael Workéyè. Charli’s close collaborators Shygirl and A.G. Cook also appear with the latter composing the film’s score.
According to Deadline, Arquette plays a record label boss while Skarsgård portrays a fashion-obsessed European creative and Mullen steps in as XCX’s personal assistant.
In a Variety interview last August, XCX said her acting ventures were inspiring. “I am really enjoying my acting journey,” she said. “I feel very, very inspired at the moment in that field, I feel unbelievably creative, and I only ever want to do things that inspire me and make me feel energised.”

In a November 2025 interview with Vanity Fair, she went on to discuss her upcoming film in more depth, calling it a “2024 period piece”.
“It’s not a tour documentary or a concert film in any way, but the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one. It’s fiction, but it’s the realest depiction of the music industry that I’ve ever seen,” she added. She also described her character as “sort of a hell version of myself”.
