Cortina d’Ampezzo celebrated in new book from Assouline, ahead of 2026 Winter Olympics
STORYVincenzo La Torre

Co-hosting with Milan, the Italian ski resort is known as the Queen of the Dolomites and was a favourite of 1940s-60s English film star David Niven
Cortina d’Ampezzo may not be as well known as St Moritz, Courchevel, Gstaad, Vail or Aspen, but things are set to change soon as the ski resort in northern Italy is co-hosting the Winter Olympics, along with the Italian fashion capital Milan, this year.

Part of the Dolomites, a mountain range in the northeast of the country, Cortina first held the Winter Olympics in 1956 and has since become a favourite destination among in-the-know Italians who flock there every year for their annual settimana bianca (“white week”) holiday.

Described by British actor David Niven as “one of the choicest resorts in the Alps”, Cortina is now the subject of a lavishly illustrated book by luxury publisher Assouline.
Featuring images of snow-laden peaks, quaint streets, alpine surroundings and luxurious après-ski hang-outs, the book is the perfect introduction to what many Italians refer to as the Queen of the Dolomites.
