If you’re looking to impress a special someone this holiday, the 2019 Gucci Gift Giving collection might just be the ace up your sleeve. For this men and women's collection, creative director Alessandro Michele brings the whimsically-illustrated insects and flowers of the archival Gucci Flora pattern onto the iconic GG motif canvas, layering two historical house designs for maximalist effect. In 1966, illustrator Vittorio Accornero conceived the Flora pattern by hand on a silk scarf, made exclusively as a gift for Princess Grace Kelly. STYLE Edit: Who’s with Harry Styles on Gucci’s Art Wall in Hong Kong? For the princess in your life, the Ophidia, a stand-out handbag design that originally features the GG motif and Web stripe, is married with the 54-year-old Flora print. The Ophidia GG Flora continental wallets, as do other Ophidia silhouettes, feature the vibrant flowers over a beige and ebony Gucci monogrammed canvas, with a vibrant leather trim. Silk scarves, a pair of Princetown slippers, ankle boots and Ace Sneakers get a similar multilayered pattern treatment, among other fabulous gift items. STYLE Edit: Gucci to back Nick Cave’s Copenhagen exhibition The special collection also boasts an all-new cosmetics case silhouette for make-up lovers to perhaps fill with pieces from Gucci Beauty, which returned under Michele’s tenure earlier this year. And, if you're a stickler for packaging, the Gift Giving collection is wrapped in dedicated packaging featuring a striped tie-dye effect with tropical palm tree images, created using a special holographic printing technique. As for why you're seeing palm trees in a Christmas package: the Gift Giving campaign, directed by Harmony Korine, featured the unorthodox theme of a winter sun getaway. The campaign film transported us to a 70s-inspired tropical cruise liner bedecked with tinsel, complete with a snowman made of beach sand. Want more stories like this? Sign up here .
