Meet the model who made a prosthetic leg out of a Louis Vuitton bag – after losing a limb in a car crash
British model Sian Green-Lord had her left leg amputated after being hit by a New York City taxi cab – so she crafted a designer ‘super leg’ made from a vintage LV handbag
How many times have you heard the adage “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”? This everyday saying may be casually used, and yet, a fraction of us ever do it – because whining about lemons is so much easier.
That’s not the case with Sian Green-Lord, a 29-year-old aspiring model and real-life champion from the UK city of Leicester, who was struck by a yellow cab near the Rockefeller Center soon after arriving in New York for a holiday in 2013.
Not only did she find herself in an accident barely 24 hours after arriving in the Big Apple, but the impact was so bad it severed Green-Lord’s left foot and shattered her right leg. This led to an amputation; thankfully the doctors managed to save just her right leg.
However the young model didn’t lose her spirit after such a life-changing catastrophe. And now, almost seven years later, she is seen smiling, sporting a designer prosthetic leg that she created out of a vintage Louis Vuitton bag. The idea to do this came to her in a dream where she saw herself with a “super leg” – and super-leg she did create.
A YouTube video documents her process of making a prosthetic leg at the Blatchford Clinic in Sheffield, UK. She has said the leg wasn’t created to be flashy, but to remind her of life before the accident.
