The Oscars 2020 ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, drawing the award season close to a glittering close on the morning of February 10, Hong Kong time. As the stars go head-to-head for the golden statue, as usual, STYLE steps out onto red carpet in screening the biggest wins and losses on their outfits. The worst An average choice from the red carpet’s usually most-showstopping man; we expected more, Billy Porter. We absolutely adore Laura Dern and her excellent performances in Big Little Lies and Marriage Story – for which she earned a best supporting actress statue – but we think she could do better sartorially for occasion. This looks like she’s straight out of the boudoir. Laura Dern: Marriage Story and working with best friend Nicole Kidman The dress Olivia Colman opted for appeared both too busy, yet lacking any stand-out feature. Fail. Just like the musical Cats Rebel Wilson starred in, we just can’t approve of the hairstyle she is pulling tonight. While Janelle Monáe looked beautiful with her custom Star Wars- esque tulle mesh evening dress, we wish the crystal-lacquered circle could be more fluid than rigid. A lacklustre choice for Little Women director Greta Gerwig. Is Saoirse Ronan paying a tribute to her recent role in Little Women , which is fantastic? The plunging black and top are amazing, but are we the only one deeming that the bottom of the dress is too oversized, and just doesn’t fit? Saoirse Ronan: 5 reasons to love the Oscar-nominated star The best Natalie Portman looked positively regal in her Dior Haute Couture dress, which she accessorised with a Cartier High Jewellery ring and Clash de Cartier earrings. Portman used her outfit to put the spotlight on the talented female directors who weren’t nominated for Oscars this year. On her black cape – from Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, who is herself a feminist – were embroidered the names of female directors who were not recognised in the best director category, including Greta Gerwig, Lulu Wang and Lorene Scafaria. One of our favourites so far – Kristen Wiig in a striking red Valentino dress paired with glitzy Christian Louboutin pumps. Best actress nominee Renée Zellweger turned heads in this white one-shoulder sequinned gown from Armani Prive. We want to know what her diet is in keeping this perfect shape. Girl fans are going crazy with Timothee Chalamet’s rich, good-boy look. He sported a navy blue Prada ensemble, smartly matched with a Cartier brooch set with rubies and diamonds. Margot Robbie looked stunning in this simple yet elegant little black dress from Chanel. We love the elegant sexiness Charlize Theron brought out with the high-slit gown from Dior Haute Couture. To Gen Z, fashion is all about being different, and that’s why they adore Billie Eilish as she expressed the ethos to its core. Who can wear Chanel in such a trendy way besides her? Best and worst dressed at the Grammys 2020 – video We applaud the bold spirit of Scarlett Johansson, electing for fishnet at the most important red carpet of the year. The double nominee demonstrated her sexy hourglass figure and tattoo with the bespoke champagne colour Oscar de la Renta gown. But it’s unlikely she can take a single bite while wearing it. Great choice Sandra Oh, with this ornate dress from Elie Saab. A bit controversial for Blac Chyna, donning such a revealing outfit. But hey, if you have a nice figure, show it off. Jane Fonda, who was on stage to present best picture for Parasite , brought her fashion A-game and ageless beauty to the star-studded award show in a delicate red Elie Saab gown, Pomellato jewellery and a short hairdo. Margaret Qualley went for Chanel. Want more stories like this? Sign up here . Follow STYLE on Facebook , Instagram , YouTube and Twitter .
