Meghan and Kate have both been known to channel the look of their late mother-in-law – but when the gloves come off, who will inherit Princess Diana’s most prized timepieces?

Style icons Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton and Princess Diana have each left their own indelible print on the staid look of the royal family – from the way they styled the royal jewels to how they incorporated contemporary designers in their wardrobes.

Markle and Middleton’s looks often channel that of their late mother-in-law. But when it comes to timepieces, Diana and Markle seem to have more in common.

Diana was a fan of the Cartier Tank; she owned at least two references, a gold one with a crocodile strap and a two-tone bracelet version.

Markle is also a fan of the design. The actress was wearing the Tank Française long before her ties to the royal family. She continues to wear her two-tone bracelet Tank watch at public engagements and in private. She told Hello magazine in 2015 that she bought the watch during the filming of season two of Suits, and plans to give it to her daughter one day.

Middleton is no fan of the Tank watch. Her everyday watch is also a Cartier, but it’s the contemporary Ballon Bleu. The 33mm steel Ballon Bleu was a present from Prince William for their third wedding anniversary.
