The Ambanis, both Mukesh and Anil’s families, visited in 2000 and again in 2010. It was said that when the Ambani brothers first visited the game reserve, it was a real family holiday. But, in the years to come, disputes arose and, according to The Telegraph newspaper in India, they couldn’t bear to be in the same room. The trip in 2010 was meant to ensure peace talks between the two business magnates.

It’s almost as big as Israel

The Kruger National Park was a fitting choice as one of Africa’s largest game reserves occupies 19,485 square kilometres (7,523 square miles), and the odds on the paparazzi following them there were remote. In case they needed to blow off steam or get some fresh air, they could go anywhere without seeing other humans. The park is almost as big as Israel. It’s home to an estimated 147 mammal species, 114 reptile species, and 507 bird species, which include 12,000 elephants, 27,000 African buffaloes and 1,000 leopards. These numbers alone mean that the park has to be enormous to accommodate everyone.
