Worried about the coronavirus, protests across the US or Donald Trump declaring World War III? This luxury survival shelter is the perfect place to bunker down

As President Trump knows, sometimes you need to bunker down – the Survival Condo Project in Kansas can shelter up to 75 people in luxury units, providing everything from a swimming pool to a shooting range, cinema to climbing wall
What: Luxury survival bunker penthouse unit
How much: Starting at US$4.5 million
Why: We’ve all stopped making fun of doomsday preppers. When we see the supermarket shelves are empty of toilet paper, sanitiser and flour, we can’t help wondering whether the joke is on us.
Fortunately, some veteran preppers have been busy doing what they do best: prepping. If you’re new on the scene, worrying about an impending nuclear war, zombie apocalypse, killer comet or “just” our current global pandemic and the protests across America protesting police brutality and systemic racism, you might be relieved to hear that there are plenty of survival bunkers and fallout shelters to protect you, your family and even your pets.
For the Survival Condo Project located at an undisclosed site in Kansas in the United States, no specific qualifications or skills are required to join its luxury shelter; all you need is plenty of cash handy.
For US$4.5 million, you can land yourself a luxury penthouse unit in one of Survival Condo’s former Atlas missile silos, built by the Army Corps of Engineers.
The superstructure, once used to house and launch intercontinental ballistic missiles, was designed to survive a direct nuclear strike. After a massive renovation project, it now covers 54,000 square feet of underground, protected space.
Most impressive is its monolithic dome top, made of hardened concrete measuring up to nine feet thick and capable of protecting residents from winds in excess of 800km/h. (For comparison, 1961’s Typhoon Nancy, considered one of the most powerful tropical cyclones in history, was a mere 345km/h at its peak.)

Survival Condo says that the project is able to sustain 75 people for more than five years, as the silo is fitted with its own hydroponic and aquaponic farm and well-stocked with dehydrated food supplies.
