The wife of Mukesh Ambani, Asia’s richest man, showed off ‘the holy grail of handbags’ during lunch with celebrity sisters Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan – here’s why the crocodile skin bag is coveted by super VIPs across the globe

Not only is Indian business magnate Mukesh Ambani the nation and Asia’s wealthiest man , he’s also one of the top 10 rich richest men in the world alongside the likes of Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates. Luxury possessions are simply run of the mill to him and his family, whether it’s a spectacular mansion – complete with a snow room, ice-cream parlour, 3 helipads and 600 staff plush corporate jet, or a 168-car garage of luxury cars.

For those on the outside looking in, however, the Hermès handbag collection of Mukesh’s wife, Nita, is truly enviable.

While Hermès Birkin bags might be a costly extravagance for many, they’re ordinary accessories in Nita’s wardrobe. She was spotted flaunting a burgundy red crocodile Birkin at Lakme Fashion Week as well as a light brown Birkin during other outings.

But it was while lunching with celebrity sisters Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in London last year that Nita pulled out a real treasure: a white Himalaya Birkin that she further customised with over 240 dazzling diamonds and 18-karat gold hardware.

Regular Hermès Birkins are highly coveted as status symbols by celebrities and socialites alike. They are quite difficult to attain and are usually reserved for the brand’s super VIPs. Himalaya Birkins are even more elusive, dubbed the holy grail of handbags for their extreme rarity. This is due to the crocodile skin they’re made from, which is carefully dyed to resemble the snow-capped Himalayan mountains, hence the name.

Other noted Himalaya Birkin owners include Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian, Filipino actress Heart Evangelista, and Singaporean socialite Jamie Chua, who also owns a diamond Himalaya Birkin and possesses the world’s largest Hermès collection.
Meanwhile Melania Trump recently found herself the subject of a meme after clutching her Birkin tightly while disembarking from Air Force One – rather than taking her husband’s hand, despite several attempts by the US president.
