Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani is worth US$81.6 billion, and this wealth is definitely reflected in his family’s outfits – or more specifically their handbags.
As we all know, the head of Reliance Industries’ wife Nita Ambani possesses one of rarest and most exorbitantly expensive Hermès Birkins in the world. But her expansive handbag collection goes way beyond that, including an entire range of the most coveted Hermès Birkins and Kellys alongside classic Chanels, the latest Celines, and bespoke Goyards. It would be safe to say that Nita Ambani should be crowned the queen of handbags.
Here’s a sampling of what’s in Nita’s – and daughter-in-law Shloka’s – wardrobe. Which bag do you covet most?

Nita has sported an extravagant vintage elephant-shaped clutch at several high-profile occasions. The head-turning bag was created by Hungarian-American designer Judith Leiber, a couture clutch maker who specialises in high-end, custom-made purses. The dazzling design, inspired by the Hindu god Ganesha, features hand-placed fine crystals, gold coloured hardware and metallic leather. It comes with a hefty yet well-deserved price tag of US$5,995.

She was also spotted with another Judith Leiber minaudière at singer Lata Mangeshkar’s music label launch.

But Nita’s not the only Judith Leiber handbag collector in the family: her daughter-in-law Shloka, who married Akash last March, also owns a rock-your-wardrobe piece.

In December 2019, Nita’s daughter Isha hosted a charity auction event at the family’s mansion to raise funds for a girls’ school in Jaisalmer. The occasion was attended by Bollywood A-list celebrities like Anil Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Neha Dhupia and Bhumi Pednekar, as well as the Ambani family.

Shloka showed up in a glittering black jumpsuit by Lebanese designer Elie Saab accessorised with glamorous jewellery. But what really stole the spotlight was her bejewelled clutch, the quintessential Judith Leiber Boombox Brooklyn Mookie purse.

This accessory, inspired by 90s boom boxes, is decorated with colourful Austrian crystals while the interiors are done up in smooth lambskin leather. Sold out on most e-commerce platforms, the bag carries the same value as Nita’s Ganesha bag.

Shloka also has a penchant for Hermès, which could be considered one of the family’s favourite brands. Less flamboyant than Nita’s lavish, diamond-encrusted designs, Shloka’s Hermès collection channels a more youthful spirit, including Kelly and Constance purses.

When attending the Lakmé Fashion Week at Jio Garden in Mumbai this summer, Shloka dropped her usual intricate gowns in favour of a refreshing denim jacket and floral dress combo. She brightened up the look with a red Kelly bag.

She also sported an orange Hermès Constance Elan Bag with H Swift leather and golden hardware during a recent outing with Nita. Although not as extravagant as Nita’s famous crocodile Hermès Birkin, the shoulder bag is worth around US$14,000.
